Door Knob Turning on its Own

I've had a peaceful couple of months and although I don't mind spirit activity per se, I do not like how everything else malfunctions when spirits are present.

I guess it was too good to last. The other evening around the usual 9:00-10.00 P.M. hour, when most of the unusual stuff occurs around here, my smoke detectors started screaming again. Readers will remember that I experienced this before and it was the new smoke detector in the dining room that malfunctioned and wouldn't shut off.

The detectors, rather than chirping as they do when they need new batteries, started sounding instead. I got up and went into the old upstairs landing and they stopped. Hmm. I went back to the bedroom and about 10 minutes later, they started screaming again. I got up and went back out on the landing and they stopped--almost as if something was trying to capture my attention.

I mentioned to my boyfriend that I hoped this wasn't a signal that the spirits were back in my home. A couple of days later a friend came up to stay. Now, she is psychic, too, and I don't know if this somehow magnified the energy or attracted it but . . .

We were sitting in the living room and talking. She looked past my shoulder and saw something looking in the doorway at us. She said she'd seen something twice but had brushed it off as her eyes playing tricks on her. this time, thought, it was unmistakable. We both heard sounds in the foyer. I feel good about this because it confirms to me that I'm not losing my grip on sanity and that these things really are occurring here.

We went to bed and my friend related that she heard someone walking around in the dining room during the night and she heard the sound of footsteps overhead. The next morning events took an even stranger turn.

She was in the upstairs bathroom; I was down in the kitchen. When we later compared notes, we realized that we both experienced something at the same time.

She was brushing her teeth and saw the bathroom door opening. Now, my friend grew up in older homes and is used to doors that pop open because of crooked floors--and this is what she thought at first--until the door knob started turning. At this point she thought I had gone in search of her. When she looked, no one was on the other side!

Meanwhile, I was down in the kitchen and standing facing the stove. I heard a tube of concrete roll across my island. Now the tubes sat there the previous afternoon and overnight and didn't move. I wasn't moving around so couldn't have caused vibrations to cause one of the tubes to roll. I rolled it back to where it had been and tested to see if the counter was crooked in that spot of the house. The tube rolled either way and didn't roll in one particular direction, so that ruled out a slightly sloping counter.

My friend came downstairs and we told each other of our strange experiences. We tried the jump test to see if we could get the tube to roll. Jumping up and down did not cause it to roll. Nothing would budge it.

This isn't the first time objects have moved in this house. My dining room chair moved three feet, a pen dropped off my kitchen table when my back was turned. A pen on my front room coffee table moved on its own, a tightly affixed light cover flew off, a stroller tipped over, a curtain kept catapulting off a window.

Try as I might to find logical explanations for all of this, I'm beginning to seriously believe this house is haunted.
